Birds by Day, Bats by Night:
Long-Term Census of Bats
and Birds in Panama
And… action!
The benefits of small-scale plantations for mammal species in mixed landscapes (Webinar in Spanish)
The importance of timber plantations as corridors or shelter for mammals.
The great biodiversity in Panama's forests includes a dozen mammals that require connectivity between forests for their populations to be healthy. Today, however, connectivity between larger forests requires the help of forest fragments and even artificial forests, such as large or small-scale timber plantations. Although timber plantations do not replace the functions of native forests, they can function as corridors or refuges for mammals. However, not all mammals seem to be able to benefit from plantations. In this talk we will discuss the results of 3,165 days of camera trapping observations in small-scale timber plantations in Colon, Panama.
