For more than 100 years, the Smithsonian has gathered important flora, fauna, biodiversity, oceanography and climate data in Panama. Our quickly growing Global Earth Observatories, known as ForestGEO and MarineGEO, are long-term monitoring sites that extend data collection to more than 20 countries. Researchers from around the globe can explore and interpret this data for research projects, or apply new dimensions to their data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping.
