Payment, Cancellation, and Refund Policies

Payments
Individual or Group Tours
  • Payment must be made within a maximum of 7 business days after receiving your invoice.
  • If the tour is scheduled within 7 business days, payment must be made upon receiving the invoice.
School, University, or Local Tour Operator Tours
  • Payment must be made within a maximum of 30 business days before the tour date.
  • If the tour is scheduled within 30 business days, payment must be made upon receiving the invoice.

Note: Failure to show up on the day of the tour or arriving after the boat boarding time will result in the loss of the reservation, and it will not be subject to rescheduling or refund.

 

Cancellation and Refunds

To cancel your reservation, you must send your request to the email address stribci@si.edu.

STRI reserves the right to cancel tours due to extraordinary events or force majeure. 100%

Once the request is approved by STRI Administration, the refund will be processed within 30 business days.

General Rules for Visits to Barro Colorado

BCI is a protected area where scientific research is conducted year-round, so certain rules of conduct and regulations must be observed:

  • Disturbing wildlife: This includes feeding animals, using infrared pointers, making vocalizations to attract animals, or playing music on the trails.
  • Substance use: The use of hallucinogenic drugs, alcohol, and smoking is not allowed in the forest or inside any facility.
  • Drone use: Recreational drone flights are not permitted.
  • Biological contamination: Do not bring seeded fruits or any animals to the island.
  • Specimen collection: Collecting plants, animals, or any natural material is strictly prohibited.

Filming, Photography, and Drone Use

Filming, photography, and drone use for reports or promotional purposes must be coordinated with STRI’s Communications Department prior to the date of the visit, as well as any required permits. For more information, please contact: tejadas@si.edu
