GENERAL RULES
- The minimum age to visit the Barro Colorado Nature Monument is 8 years old with an accompanying parent and 10 years old without an accompanying parent.
- Please communicate to STRI any medical conditions, allergies or special conditions.
- The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute reserves the right to cancel the visit due to extraordinary circumstances, for which a full refund will be issued.
- Drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and their consumption are prohibited on BCI.
PAYMENT AND CANCELLATION POLICIES
Your visit to BCI will be confirmed when we email you a reservation form. Once this form is received, you will need to send us, via email, the names, ages and passport or Panamanian cédula numbers of all the participants and make an online payment for your visit. Information including your reservation number, the fees for the visit, what the visit includes, payment instructions, boat schedule, and general guidelines are included in the reservation form.
- Your payment must be submitted within seven calendar of receiving your reservation form or seven calendar days before your visit, whichever occurs first.
- If you happen to be booking less than seven calendar days before your visit, your payment must be submitted on the date on which the reservation form is sent.
- A total of 75% of your payment will be reimbursed when cancelling 15 calendar days or more before the visiting date. If cancelling less than 15 calendar days before your visiting date, there will be a 75% reimbursement only if a medical certificate is presented.
- If you were charged an additional amount for a guide and you happen to be cancelling less than 15 calendar days prior your visiting date, a total of 75% of your standard rate plus 50% of the additional amount charged for a guide will be reimbursed.
- If you were charged an additional amount for a guide and you happen to be cancelling 15 calendar days or more prior to your visiting date, a total of 75% of the whole amount paid will be reimbursed.
- A 100% reimbursement will be made only if we are not able to carry out the tour due to reasons beyond our control such as extreme weather events or if the passenger boat is out of service.

- If you were charged an additional amount for a guide and you happen to be cancelling 45 calendar days or more prior to your visiting date, a total of 75% of the whole amount paid will be reimbursed.
