Equipment shipped to STRI has to go through Panama customs. Make sure to allow plenty of time for your equipment to arrive. Get in touch with the STRI Procurement department and the scientific coordinator at the facility where you will work to make the necessary arrangements.
The Panama postal service does not use street addresses and there is no door-to-door mail delivery. You can use STRI’s mailing addresses, as outlined below. Another option is to set up a personal mailbox with a freight- or mail-forwarding company. There are various such services available in Panama.
All mail and shipping at STRI is managed through the Traffic Department. If you have any questions, please contact trafico@si.edu.
As an intern or fellow, you may receive mail through STRI’s Diplomatic Pouch Service. This is exclusively for official business of the institution and its authorized personnel. The average shipping timeline is 4-6 weeks, so plan accordingly.
The STRI Procurement Office at the Tupper Center handles all purchasing and shipping procedures. Interns and fellows must have their project’s advisor or principal investigator initiate all purchases with the Procurement Office. If you have questions, please email Procurement at STRI-Proc-HelpDesk@si.edu.
