Tropical biodiversity is increasingly threatened by natural and human drivers of change. The latter include demographic and land use change and urbanization. The ways that people conceptualize and interact with the environment has the potential to shift economic, cultural, and social development. Sociologists at STRI study a range of aspects of human-environment relations from coastal and marine policy to lifestyle migration and rural and urban land use and management.
