Chemical Ecology

We may still be a long way from discovering all of the Earth’s species — but we’re even further from understanding the extent of their chemical diversity. Plants, bacteria, fungi, insects and marine organisms communicate and defend themselves with complex chemical compounds. Some hold the potential to combat human disease or serve as biocontrols for agriculture. We ask fundamental questions about how chemistry affects community dynamics, speciation, biodiversity and coevolution.
