Description:
This program is designed to enhance intellectual development and give Panamanian students real-world experience working along side professionals here at STRI. Panamanian candidates who meet the program requirements follow the same application guidelines as for the General Internship program, starting by finding a suitable mentor from the list of scientific staff, research associates or projects listed on the bulletin board (links).
Deadlines:
February 15, June 15 and September 15.
Eligibility:
- Panamanian nationality
- Enrolled or graduated from a Panamanian universities
- For undergraduate students (Licenciatura): currently registered in the last year of their degree
- For recent graduates: most have obtained their degree no more than 2 years previous to the application deadline
- For Master’s level students: currently registered as Master’s student at a Panamanian university
Award:
Monthly stipend of $1,000 US to cover room and board. There is a small travel allowance for relocation and to purchase a health insurance for the duration of the internship.
Duration:
Three months with potential of an extension for an additional three months (total appointment of 6 months). The extension depends upon the performance and results of the intern and interest of the mentor.
Program dates:
Applicants will be notified of acceptance into the program approximately 6-8 weeks after each application deadline. Internships usually begin approximately two months after notification of acceptance into the program, but the start date is flexible.
