Head of Analytical Biogeochemistry Laboratory (ABL)

The Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute seeks an outstanding laboratory scientist to lead and manage the Analytical Biochemistry Laboratory (ABL) at STRI. The laboratory provides services to the entire STRI community and analyzes samples of plant and animal tissues, soil and water.

The ABL maintains instrumentation for organic and mineral element analysis, including a combustion TOC analyzer, an elemental C-N analyzer, an ICP-OES, and an IRMS. The new head of the ABL at STRI will supervise a team of analytical personnel, leading and managing all operations of the laboratory.

STRI is headquartered in Panama with modern research facilities and field stations throughout the country, and hosts a vibrant and collaborative scientific community of 30 staff scientists and over 1200 scientific visitors per year. Applicants should have a Master’s degree or PhD (or equivalent) in biology, chemistry, biogeochemistry or related fields, with practical expertise in multiple analytical techniques, and prior experience in laboratory management and technical/scientific leadership.

Annual salary is commensurate with experience.
