Temperatures affect ant behavior and colony function
Insects are vulnerable to rising temperatures because they depend on the environment to regulate their body temperatures. Insects that live in colonies, such as ants, have collective group behaviors to maintain their nest temperatures. They can also change their activity patterns to escape unfavorable climates. Tropical species remain largely understudied even though they may face more challenges due to rising temperatures.
Awanti Shastri, doctoral student at the George Washington University in Washington DC. will talk about ants that live in different habitats and how temperatures affect their behavior and colony function.
