For the second consecutive day, the number of recoveries exceeds the number of deaths due to COVID-19

According to the report from the Ministry of Health (MINSA), for the second consecutive day the number of recovered patients is above the number of deceased. There is a new record of 140 recovered, while in the same period there were 120 deaths. 

The Vice Minister of Health, Luis Francisco, reported that today the process of preparing and equipping the operation of the new Panama Solidario Integrated Hospital in Albrook began, with the delivery of fans, beds and other equipment. In the coming weeks, a regulatory framework will be presented to establish the administrative and financial management of this medical center for the provision of services. The hospital is expected to be equipped by next Wednesday. 

As part of the mitigation plan in Koskuna, Veracruz, in western Panama province, MINSA established a COVID-19 sampling point and another for people with respiratory symptoms without having to leave the area. 

Article 9 of Executive Decree 507 was modified to allow the usual administrative procedures for MINSA and the CSS, for the acquisition of goods, supplies and services. 

Psychological therapy

MINSA reiterates that the Plan Protect yourself Panama provides mental health care to people who require it through the ROSA platform and the 169 phone line. The National Institute of Mental Health also offers help at 523-6813 and 523-6846. To date 98 people have been treated. 

Epidemiological report

Today, 140 laboratory recoveries and 1,809 clinical recoveries are reported along with 63 new cases, for a cumulative total of 4,273 COVID-19, according to the doctor, Lourdes Moreno, chief of epidemiology. 

3,664 people are in home isolation. There are 120 deaths, 349 patients are hospitalized (254 in the wards and 95 in the Intensive Care Unit). 

Starting Monday, the phone line 800-6467 can be used to schedule appointments for influenza vaccine appointments, a process that will continue throughout April and May. 

Public security

The confiscation of a shipment of liquor was reported in Chiriquí, La Unión area in a vehicle from Costa Rica; criminal and customs investigations were carried out. There were no detainees. 

The Deputy Minister of Security, Ivor Pittí, insisted on respect for the total quarantine tomorrow Sunday throughout the national territory. In the last 24 hours, 611 people, mostly male, were detained. 

Deputy Minister Sucre said that the majority of people detained for violating the quarantine are men, the sex that also corresponds to the majority of patients. 

Digital office

Caja de Seguro Social (CSS) director Enrique Lau Cortés reported that next week the CSS and the MINSA will start a digital clinic in partnership with doctors from the Rotary Club. 

He expressed his concern about the low levels of donation in the Breast Milk Bank of the Hospital Complex. He called on donors to contact the 6354-9162 phone line. 

Panama Solidarity

MIDES deputy minister Milagros Ramos, who was in charge of the Panama Plan report, said that 453,427 bags and 254,427 bonds were distributed in the last 24 hours. 

She reported that some products such as chicken, pineapples and bananas have been added to the bags in order to maintain nutritional balance.
