Absolute quarantine for Saturday 11 and Sunday 12

The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, reported through his Twitter account that "for the country's health security and to preserve the lives of Panamanians, in order to comply with the total quarantine no one may go out into the streets on Saturday April 11th and Sunday April 12th. ” 

Security Minister, Juan Pino, explained that the measure will take effect from 00:00 on Saturday 11th and will run until Sunday, April 12th. Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Rosario Turner, said that she hopes that Good Friday will be a day of true seclusion. 

In the last 24 hours, 589 people are reported to have violated the quarantine, including 46 minors. 

Pino said that given the lack of compliance, more coercive measures are being evaluated, such as taking away a driver's license for three months from drivers who violate the rules. 

During the press conference, the minister explained that in view of the situation that arose in Minera Panamá, vice minister, Luis Francisco Sucre, and doctor, Nadja Porcell, met with company executives to evaluate possible actions. 

The MINSA informs all companies engaged in online products sales that are not covered by Executive Decree 507 will not be able to continue offering their services, except for those that have special permission from the government. 

Today, minister Turner toured the facilities of the Gorgas Memorial Institute and met with the director, Juan Miguel Pascale.  

Tomorrow a cargo plane with 1,600 COVID-19 tests will arrive in the country. The tests will be distributed at Anita Moreno Hospital in Los Santos; Luis “Chicho” Fábrega, Hospital in Veraguas; Nicolás A. Solano Hospital, in western Panamá; and the Children's Hospital in the metropolitan area. 

The director of the Caja de Seguro Social (CSS), Enrique Lau Cortés, reported that the decision was made to decontaminate the Bolívar Building, where part of the institution works. 

He also reported that the CSS has acquired new equipment to do faster hematology tests at 16% less cost. At the same time, four new doctors have been appointed. 

The director of the Institute for Training and Use of Human Resources (IFARHU), Bernando Meneses, highlighted the massive display of volunteerism, with more than 600 young people who have responded to the call from the National Government to participate in the delivery of the food bags and the solidarity bonus. 

As of 4:00 pm today, 27,339 bags of food have been prepared at the Atlapa collection center, of which 16,852 were dispatched throughout the country; while in Chiriquí 2,118 bags have been produced, of which 2,050 were dispatched. 

Epidemiological report

At today's cut, April 8th, 135 new positive cases are reported, for a total of 2,528. Sixteen patients have recovered. 2,154 people are in home isolation, while there are 194 patients hospitalized, 101 in the intensive care unit, and 63 deceased.
