Panama records the first recoveries of COVID-19 patients

The Ministry of Health (MINSA) reports that the first two patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in Panama have recovered, after they completed their isolation and medical treatments.

The MINSA Also confirms that a patient with COVID-19 left the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Hospital Complex of the Caja de Seguro Social (CSS) and is now in the hospital ward. Two other patients, in Veraguas and Panama City, had their artificial respiration machines removed, showing notable improvement.

However, to reinforce the care of COVID-19 positive patients, the National Government announced the opening of a special room, with 130 beds, at the Luis “Chicho” Fábrega Hospital in Veraguas, and a new room with 44 beds, at the San Miguel Arcángel Hospital in San Miguelito, while at the Nicolás A. Solano Hospital in La Chorrera, two additional rooms will be enabled.

Hospital capacity

To strengthen the national supply, the Minister of Health, Rosario Turner, coordinated with local businessmen to acquire a million masks in addition to the two million that MINSA had already acquired.

It was also reported that the country has an installed capacity of 500 artificial respirators and the arrival of an additional 100 acquired by the National Government is expected.

So far, 10,000 balboas in fines have been imposed on 35 establishments throughout the country for not complying with the sanitary norm that establishes a national quarantine.

Epidemiological status

At the end of today, March 25th, 558 accumulated positive cases (115 new ones) are reported, of which 66 (11.8%) remain hospitalized (20 in intensive care and 46 in the ward), while 484 are in home isolation (86.7%).

To date, 4,248 samples have been taken, of which 3,690 (86.8%) were negative and deaths remain at a total of 8 (1.4%).

Staying at home and frequent hand washing is the message that MINSA enforces to avoid the transmission of COVID-19.
