Dear STRI Community,

COVID-19 cases in Panama continue to impact large numbers of people. The STRI community does not escape this difficult reality, and we are aware of colleagues within the institution who have suffered from the virus.

That is why we want to emphasize once again the importance of following basic preventive measures that will help us and our loved ones, against the SARS-CoV-2 virus:

  1. Avoid leaving your home, unless it is really necessary.
  2. If you really need to go to some of the STRI facilities, avoid face-to-face conversations with other people and, if necessary, keep the conversations for less than 15 minutes, at a distance no less than 2 meters and preferably in an open place.
  3. Avoid touching your face.
  4. Wash your hands every 30 minutes with soap and water, or clean them with hand sanitizer or 70% alcohol and every time after coughing, sneezing, going to the bathroom, touching high-contact objects (handrails, doors knobs, toilet knobs, sink faucets, public transportation, etc.) and before eating, or touching your face.
  5. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, or the inner corner of your forearm when coughing or sneezing.
  6. Avoid greetings with hugs and kisses.
  7. Consider everyone as someone who could be asymptomatic, pre-symptomatic or already sick with the virus.
  8. Wear a face mask that covers your mouth and nose when going out, or when you might be surrounded by people.
  9. Avoid closed or air-conditioned places where there are lots of people.
  10. Keep as much distance as possible from other people when in lines, or in closed places; but a distance no less than 2 meters for more than 15 minutes, if possible.
  11. Isolate yourself at home and away from other members of your family if you have a fever and/or have symptoms of a cold, flu, or if you test positive for COVID-19. Consult your doctor, or call 169, or contact ROSA (6828-2012 / 6997-2539) for directions and report the case to José Ramón Perurena (6673-1507).
  12. Practice a quarantine of at least 14 days when you know that you were in direct contact (within 2 meters for more than 15 minutes) with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 and inform MINSA (169 or ROSA) and José Ramón Perurena (6673-1507).

Stay well and safe…
