Understanding the file name nomenclature


File names use the following conventions:

genus species [var/subsp] authority phase_modifier

Possible phenophases are:

Phase Definition
casule fruit capsule
flower flowers (male and female)
flower-bud flower buds (male and female)
fragment fragment of a fruit
fruit mature fruit
damaged a fruit that has been damaged by an insect
immature-fruit immature fruit
seed-dry dried seed from the collection of Osvaldo Calderon
seed-wet fresh seed
leaf leaves
timeseries time series figure showing summary data from plant program 200 trap phenology experiement. The time series plots show number of traps capturing something in a give year, number of flower-trap hits, number of immature fruits, and number of seed equivalents (seeds + fruits x 'fruit-to-seed ratio')


The phase may be followed by a number which indicates different versions of the indicated phase.

Possible modifiers are:
Modifier Definition
cluster indicates the picture includes a grouping of the phenophase (i.e. inflorescence, infructencense)
leaflet a leaflet of a compound leaf
plant indicates the that phenophase was photographed with other parts of the plant (e.g. stems, leaves, etc)

The modifier may be followed by a number which indicates different versions of the indicated phase+modifier.
