Conservation-oriented research is one of the most dynamic and rapidly growing fields at STRI. The Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project in Brazil is a world-leading study of forest fragmentation. The Center for Tropical Forest Science links scientists and resource-managers throughout the tropics to research programs in ecology and conservation. The PRORENA initiative promotes reforestation of degraded lands and studies of restoration ecology in Panama . STRI scientists are leaders in assessing the ecological impacts of overfishing, overharvesting, and pollution on marine ecosystems, while long-term monitoring by STRI's Environmental Sciences Program has many conservation applications.
