Fortuna

General information / Housing

The station offers a simple laboratory and living facility, and excellent access to the 13,000 ha Fortuna Forest Reserve, and adjacent Palo Seco Forest from the David-Chiriqui Grande highway.  This encompasses an elevational transect of mostly primary forest from sea-level to 1400m on the Caribbean slope of Panama.  Within the Fortuna reserve numerous forest trails exist from the highway providing access to forest occurring on diverse soil types.  A plant list for Fortuna and Palo Seco is available here http://www.mobot.org/MOBOT/Research/fortunackl.shtml

The electricity is 110v, 60 Hz, and a there are a couple of 220v outlets.  Fortuna offers two houses:

The Vivero (green house or Estación Científica Jorge L. Arauz) includes: - (Sleep 2 persons)

Accomodation fee $14.00 per night per person
Facility Fee $15.00 per day, per person

**The Vivero is currently undergoing renovation. At this moment we are not accepting reservations for the green house (Vivero) until further notice**

Fortuna housing

FORTUNA STATION –  Casa B (House B) includes: - (Sleeps 8 persons)

This house is owned by ENEL Fortuna and not STRI.  Visiting scientists can stay here to sleep during their research.  The reservations are coordinated through STRI, but requires previous authorization form Fortuna.  Sleeps 8 persons.  It includes:
